Auditions FAQs

What do auditions look like and what do I need to prepare?

Auditions consist of two parts: A 1:00-1:30 cut of a song (roughly a verse and a chorus) sung or beatboxed, and a brief pitch-matching exercise.

Can I audition for multiple groups?

Yes, and we encourage it! The audition process is coordinated across all eight a cappella groups at UW-Madison, so auditioning for multiple groups gives you the chance to find the community that's the best fit for you.

Will other people be in the room during my audition?

Only current members of the group will be present for your audition.

How do I pick my audition song?

Choose a song that highlights your voice at its best, whatever that means for you! UAR performs a wide range of music, so there's no need to fit a particular style; focus on the song that shows your strengths most clearly and feels true to how you sing.

Any advice?

It's completely normal to feel some nerves going into your audition. Every current member has been in your position, and we remember what it's like. Above all, we want your voice and personality to shine through. We can't wait to hear what you bring to the room!
