About Us

Under A-Rest is an all gender inclusive a cappella group comprised of University of Wisconsin-Madison students, both music and non-music majors. An entirely student-run organization, UAR creates arrangements, choreographs, and performs a cappella pieces for live audiences solely using the talents of its own members. Having advanced to semifinals in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) four times, earning the "Outstanding Choreography" award in 2024, as well as the "Outstanding Soloist" and "Outstanding Vocal Percussion" awards in 2025, UAR offers strikingly unique presentations to each competition season.

All are welcome to audition for Under A-Rest, regardless of prior singing experience! UAR takes pride in its diverse repertoire. As a group, the group performs countless musical genres, including pop, rock, soul, and even country, often featuring their signature "wall of sound." While UAR provides its members with performance opportunities and personal musical improvement, more importantly, it allows singers to be part of a group where they feel safe, can share the joy of music with others, and foster lifelong friendships.
